PM KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan)

Overview

PM KUSUM subsidises installation of solar-powered irrigation pump sets for farmers, replacing diesel pump dependency with clean energy. It has three components: Component A (solar power plants on farmer land), Component B (standalone solar pump sets), and Component C (solarising existing grid-connected pumps). Target is 34,800 MW capacity. The scheme was extended through March 2026.

Key Benefits

  • Component B: 30% central subsidy + 30% state subsidy on solar pump sets (farmer pays 40%)
  • For SC/ST and women farmers: higher subsidy shares
  • Pumps up to 7.5 HP capacity covered
  • No recurring fuel cost; energy is free after installation
  • Farmer can sell surplus solar power back to the grid (Component A/C)

Eligibility

  • Farmers with valid agricultural land and irrigation requirement
  • For Component C: must have existing grid-connected pump
  • For Component B: any farmer without grid electricity access for irrigation
