Tomato can be grown in both Rabi and Kharif seasons. In Hardoi district, it is cultivated in three main seasons. Rabi season: nursery October–November, transplanting November–December. Kharif season: nursery June–July, transplanting July–August. Zaid season: nursery January–February, transplanting February–March. The Rabi season crop is considered the best for Hardoi region.
The tomato crop is ready 90–120 days after transplanting.
Nursery stage: 25–30 days.
Vegetative stage: 20–25 days after transplanting.
Flowering: 30–40 days after transplanting.
Fruit setting: 15–20 days after flowering.
First harvest: 60–90 days after transplanting.
Total duration: 120–150 days from nursery to final harvest.
Tomato is one of the most essential vegetables in India, used daily in every household for curries, chutneys, salads, and sauces. It is an excellent cash crop for farmers of Hardoi district, offering good returns even from small landholdings. It is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin A, potassium, and lycopene.
